Purebred Breeders salutes Dogs 4 Disabled Veterans

November 30, 2011

Purebred Breeders LLC’s Donation program recognized the exemplary work of Dogs 4 Disabled Veterans (D4DV) this month.  D4DV provides service dogs and emotional support dogs to disabled veterans at no cost to the veteran. The non-profit organization, rescues dogs with potential to become service dogs in order to provide disabled veterans more independence.

The program operates by placing rescued dogs with inmates at Martin Correctional Work Camp under a “train the trainer” program. Inmates and trainers work together in training the dogs through basic and advanced obedience as well as any behavior issues. Depending on the needs of the disabled veteran receiving the dog, the dog will be trained to assist owners in standing, turning on light switches, dialing 911, opening and closing doors, retrieving dropped items and more.

“We appreciate the support extended by Purebred Breeders. This will help in the care of a rescued dog that will be placed with a disabled veteran”, D4DV’s Executive Director, Nancy Reid said.

Purebred Breeders LLC’s Donation Program seeks to support outstanding non-profit organizations that are making a difference in the community. The program that has been in existence since December, 2010 has supported various causes that help in bettering the lives of man’s best friend. “This is a great program that benefits dogs, veterans and the inmates.  Our vision correlates to that of D4DV, in the sense that we both celebrate the value our canine friends bring to our lives,” Jeff Hill, Purebred Breeders donation program’s spokesperson said.
