Golden Retriever History
The Golden Retriever was first bred in the Scottish Highlands in the 1800s as a hunting dog by sportsmen who wanted a breed that was suited to the terrain and climate of the area. Golden Retriever Appearance
A Golden Retriever is a powerful, active dog with a medium-length coat that comes in various shades of gold and which may become lighter or darker as the dog ages. The average weight of an adult Retriever is 65 to 75 pounds for males and 55 to 65 pounds for females. Male Retrievers should stand from 23 to 24 inches at the withers and females, 21.5 to 22.5 inches. They have an intelligent expression, with dark, medium-large eyes and pendant ears.
Golden Retriever Temperament
The Golden Retriever is known to be one of the best dogs for families, as they are friendly, affectionate and obedient, as well as being good with children. In fact, they would enjoy living with large families with active kids who would give them the physical activity they need. They also make great companions, particularly for those who are into jogging and running, since they can easily participate in virtually any outdoor activity, even swimming.
